How PDF compression works
DocSlim turns each page into a high-quality image and then finds the best quality that keeps the whole PDF under your limit. If needed, it lowers the resolution a little. Pages stay clear enough to read, which is what upload portals check.
Because each page becomes an image, the text in the compressed copy can't be selected or searched. Keep your original PDF if you need that.
Tips for a smaller PDF
- Turn on Black and white for text documents. It makes the file smaller and often easier to read.
- Remove pages you don't need before compressing. Fewer pages means more quality per page.
- If your PDF is already under the limit, DocSlim tells you, and you can upload it as it is.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress a PDF to 100 KB?
Enter 100 in the target size box, choose your PDF and download the result. Short documents of one to three pages usually fit well in 100 KB.
Why can't I select text in the compressed PDF?
To reach an exact size, each page is saved as an image. Portals only need to see the page, so this doesn't affect your upload.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
No. Remove the password first, then compress the new copy.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is made inside your browser on your own device. Your files are never uploaded, stored or seen by anyone.
Is this tool free?
Yes. It's completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many PDFs you make.
